Artificial Intelligence: A Tool to Invade Your Privacy and Steal Your Data
Artificial Intelligence is the ability of systems to mimic human actions, such as imitating voices, tones, and even faces, to appear trustworthy and convincing.
Failing to recognize AI threats can lead to:
- Unsafe actions such as transferring money or sharing personal information
- Loss of trust through deception and manipulation
- Exploitation of your weaknesses through scams and phishing attacks
- Sensitive data being analysed and shared with third parties without your knowledge
Example
A user was contacted by what seemed to be their bank. The AI-generated voice imitated a customer service agent, convincing the user to share their ID details. These details were later used to access their accounts and commit fraud.
- Never share family members’ names, card numbers, PINs, addresses, dates of birth, or ID details with AI tools
- Be cautious with AI chatbots; they are not bound by confidentiality laws
- Ignore suspicious messages that create urgency or fear
- Stay vigilant: even the smallest detail you share could be used against you
