CSC Welcomes a Delegation from the Future Governments Leaders Program

Cybersecurity Council (CSC) welcomed a delegation from the Future Governments Leaders Program, as part of a visit organized in partnership with the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government. The delegation comprised participants from the third cohort of the Future Governments Leaders Program, with the visit aimed at exchanging knowledge, gaining insights into the Cybersecurity Council’s efforts, and learning about the UAE’s pioneering experience in the digital and cybersecurity domains.

The visit also provided an opportunity to explore the various cybersecurity ecosystems and multiple initiatives launched by the Council to enhance cybersecurity awareness, strengthen government readiness, and review the Council’s diverse programs, in addition to identifying the most prominent cyber threats in light of rapid technological advancements.

The delegation’s visit comes within the framework of the UAE Government’s efforts to build a new and advanced generation of effective Emirati youth leaders, and to shape their role in developing an innovative, knowledge- and expertise-driven approach that enhances government services and supports the management of future governments in line with UAE Vision. The visit program included an introductory tour of the Council’s various departments, as well as specialized sessions with a select group of experts and leaders from the Council. These sessions focused on familiarizing the delegation with the key risks and challenges facing individuals and institutions in the digital age, and the mechanisms for addressing and managing them effectively.

During the visit, the UAE’s leading cybersecurity experience was also showcased at both regional and global levels, highlighting the country’s achievement of top rankings in regional and international cybersecurity indicators. Participants from the third cohort of the Future Governments Leaders Program were further introduced to global best practices in addressing cyber threats, electronic interconnectivity, cybersecurity operations, and data centers.

In this context, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, affirmed the Council’s aspiration to cooperate with institutions across all sectors and to organize field visits and tours in coordination with government entities and distinguished academic institutions. Such initiatives aim to provide firsthand exposure to the UAE’s pioneering cybersecurity experience, while facilitating the exchange and transfer of expertise to future generations, particularly youth. This aligns with empowering young leaders with essential skills and global best practices in digital and cybersecurity, strengthening cybersecurity culture, and promoting it across all segments of society. These efforts contribute to building a more resilient and agile cybersecurity ecosystem, ensuring the continued leadership of the UAE in this field and equipping new generations of leaders with the knowledge and expertise required.

His Excellency also commended the Future Governments Leaders Program for its commitment to exploring leading models and experiences in digital and government services, in coordination with academic institutions, reiterating the Council’s keenness to enhance cooperation with all entities and showcase the UAE’s distinguished cybersecurity model.

The visit of the Future Governments Leaders Program delegation is part of a series of visits organized by the program to leading government institutions, as well as international visits to various countries. These visits aim to introduce participants to global best practices and diverse leadership models in managing government institutions that are directly linked to citizen services, and to explore ways of achieving integration among different government entities.

The Future Governments Leaders Program focuses on developing future leaders for the Arab world. The program was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, in February 2023 on the sidelines of the World Government Summit. The program is implemented through a partnership between the UAE Government and the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) of the League of Arab States, in collaboration with the Government Knowledge Exchange Program and the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government.

The program contributes to preparing a group of young leaders equipped with future-readiness skills required by the governments of tomorrow. It enables them to keep pace with rapid global changes and effectively address future challenges through the design of sustainable models and the creation of proactive transformations that shape the future of development in the Arab world, create opportunities to support stability, and enhance the quality of life for present and future generations.

CSC emphasizes the importance of secure cloud storage

As part of the weekly awareness campaign of the ‘Cyber Pulse’ initiative launched by the Cyber Security Council, the Council highlighted the critical importance of cloud storage in addressing the growing digital and cyber threats. In its weekly awareness message, the campaign highlighted that cloud storage enables individuals and users to reduce risks, limit fraudsters’ access to user data, and safeguard personal information. The Council also pointed out several common cloud storage mistakes that individuals must avoid to protect their personal and financial data in cyberspace. The weekly awareness campaign noted that the most prominent of these mistakes include granting excessive identity and access management permissions, failing to enable multi-factor authentication, overreliance on public cloud storage that may expose sensitive data and facilitate the spread of malware, misconfigured security settings that leave critical systems vulnerable, absence of encryption (both at rest and in transit), and downloading applications without verifying their source or security standards. These mistakes expose many users to significant risks that directly threaten their digital security.

CSC Warns Against Sharing Sensitive Data on Social Media

As part of the weekly awareness campaign of the ‘Cyber Pulse’ initiative launched by the Cyber Security Council, the Council warned in its weekly awareness message against publishing and sharing important or personal data and information across various social media platforms. The Council stressed that posting sensitive information on different social networking sites may expose individuals to various types of fraudulent attacks, as such data can be exploited to design targeted and customized scams. It also confirmed that around 40% of users have experienced privacy violations as a result of sharing excessive personal details about their lives, families, and other private matters on social media. Under the theme titled ‘The Risk of over sharing,’ the awareness campaign highlighted that even the simplest details, which may appear insignificant to individuals and are shared publicly, can be exploited in fraudulent schemes. The Cyber Security Council advised users to adopt a set of measures to safeguard privacy and protect data and information in cyberspace.
